  13. "PatchBak" is a software package for receiving, storing, and managing bulk MIDI
  14. dumps using a PC, XT, or AT with the Music Quest MCC or Roland MPU-401. 
  15. PatchBak accepts up to 200,000 or more MIDI characters from any device that can
  16. initiate a SysEx dump, and stores them as ONE file. This is in contrast to 
  17. aftermarket MIDI drives that top out at 60K to 128K per dump. PatchBak also 
  18. includes a MIDI "trace" function for real-time inspection of MIDI data streams.

  20. PatchBak's quick-select menus, on-screen instructions, and non-cryptic error 
  21. messages mean you'll probably never need a manual, but there's a manual on disk
  22. anyhow. A setup program lets you customize for screen colors, dumpsize, disk
  23. usage, hardware, and other features. An accessory command can also be set up to
  24. run a DOS command or accessory program (such as a patch editor) from the main 
  25. menu.

  29. This BBS contains Evaluation Version D of PatchBak. Download and copy 
  30. PB_ARC.EXE to a blank floppy disk, then run PB_ARC.EXE. This is a self-un-
  31. arcing file which contains the programs PB.EXE, PBSETUP.EXE. PB.DOC, and 
  32. BRUN45.EXE. The five files will chew up about 320k, but you can delete PB_ARC.
  33. EXE afterward. Take a few minutes to read the manual for installation and setup
  34. tips, and then have at it.

  36. VERSION 2.10 - MORE BELLS AND WHISTLES
  37.  
  38. PatchBak 2.10 includes several enhancements not found in the evaluation. 
  39. Specifically, its .EXE files don't need the BRUN45.EXE run-time support file, 
  40. so take less total disk space. The menus work a bit more smoothly. Active Sense
  41. (FE) is now detected by Interpreted Trace.
